New Look – Better Mood

Finnair new, light cabin interior

Finnair's new, light cabin interior

As a service company, Finnair continually renews its service facilities. The look of the cabin interior and its seats, the form language of fittings, colours, textiles and coverings as well as materials and lighting have their day until eventually it is time to renew them, thus brightening up the travel experience of both frequent flyers and leisure passengers alike.

Passengers boarding a Finnair aircraft want to sense a safe, peaceful and professional environment. The colours and look of the interior convey associations about the airline and also, of course, about its distant homeland.

As a Finnish airline, Finnair wishes to highlight Finnishness in a positive way to its customers, who are increasingly a more international group. Winter in the northern hemisphere is long and dark; that’s why we value warmth and a sense of relaxation.

Creating a new look takes time. On Monday 6 April, the first aircraft with the new look, the brand new Airbus A330-300 OH-LTM, will take off for North America. Finnair and its trusted designer Christine Lüdeke began preparing for the latest cabin facelift two years ago. The previous refurbishment took place around the turn of the millennium, and the successful solutions adopted then have provided an excellent foundation for the new look.

When passengers step onto an aircraft fitted with this light new interior, they will experience a more spacious and lighter atmosphere. For my part, I see a project that has lasted two years, and in which many people across our organisation have participated.

Countless drafts and material samples based on the Finnair brand have passed through the hands of interior design professionals and the steering group responsible for brand values. A new colour scheme as been selected for fabrics, coverings, textiles and fittings. Fire safety has been ensured at every stage. The functionality and attractiveness of the overall look have been tested in model cabins, 3D images and in the air.

Subcontractors have been chosen through a competitive tendering process and purchase agreements signed. The logistics chain has been evaluated and tested. The Airbus aircraft factory has coordinated installations and finishing. At Helsinki-Vantaa the new aircraft will be equipped with pillows, blankets, quilted covers for the lie-flat seats in business class, and headrest covers – all coordinated with the new look.

The cabin look is now brighter, warmer and more easy-going than before. Safely, freshly and creatively, with a Finnish flavour. Customers’ first assessments from daily flights to Kittilä in Lapland can be summed up in one word: ‘Wow!’. Passengers on the New York route will be next to assess the new interior.

Welcome to Finnair’s new, brighter cabin!
